Lauttasaari parish

Price of Peace Group Exhibition 9.5. - 31.5. 2025
Exhibition opening is on May 9 between 17:00 and 19:00.
Helsinki International Artists’ Association (HIAA) is pleased to announce its upcoming group exhibition, Price of Peace, on view at Lauttasaari Church from 9th to 31st May 2025. The exhibition brings together 29 contemporary artists from diverse cultural and creative backgrounds to explore the nuanced, often unspoken dimensions of peace. From painting through photography and sculpture to mixed media installations, the exhibition invites audiences to consider the complex realities behind peaceful existence. What is the cost of peace not only in times of war, but also in everyday life?
From the historical aftermath of conflicts and the weight of collective memory, to personal sacrifices and inner healing, Price of Peace reflects on the multifaceted meaning of peace. The artworks confront themes such as the emotional toll on refugees and veterans, the socio-economic paradoxes of arms trade and diplomacy, the fragility of environmental treaties, and the philosophical questions of justice versus harmony.
“Peace is often portrayed as the absence of conflict, but in reality, it is not so simple,” says the HIAA’s exhibition curator Alex Kollerová. “This exhibition aims to open up a deeper conversation about what must be given up, negotiated, or reimagined in the name of peace.”
The exhibition takes place at the serene Lauttasaari Church, offering a contemplative space that complements the show’s themes. Visitors are encouraged to reflect not only on global and historical implications, but also on their own relationships with peace, how it is kept, lost, or reclaimed.
