The Maunula church is known to people all over the world who watch its masses or other programmes over the Internet.

During the Bishop's visitation in 1960, getting a church in Maunula was expedited. A planning committee was set up a year later. However, the Maunula church was only completed in 1980.

The church was designed by architect, Ahti Korhonen. The interior was designed by interior architect, Olavi Hänninen. The altarpiece is the wood and copper sculpture, Krusifiksi (Crucifix), by sculptor and graphic artist, Heikki Nieminen, from 1981. The church textiles were designed by textile artist, Terttu Hassi, and other textiles by textile artist, Airi Snellman-Hänninen.

The parish meeting hall houses a painting by Sam Vanni, Mooses ja laintaulut (Moses and the Tablets of the Law), and the church foyer the sculpture, Enkeli (Angel) by sculptor and artist, Aira Salosmaa.

The organ is from organ builder, Tuomi. It has 22 stops. The three church bells are Austrian.

The Maunula church is used by the Oulunkylä parish. The church also has the Verkkokirkko studio which produces internet content.
