Katukappeli

03.04.2017, 15:53
Located in the Columbus shopping centre, Katukappeli is a holy place for encounters and small events, run by volunteers.

Located in the arcade of the Columbus shopping centre, Katukappeli was dedicated in 1996. It was designed by Mauri Tommila of the architecture practice, Tommila Oy. Katukappeli is accessed from under a cross which spans the window, leaning towards those approaching. The altarpiece of the chapel is the work, Puistot (Parks), by artist Kristian Krokfors. The interior was designed by architect, Jari Reponen from the Helsinki Parish Union.

The on-call volunteers and workers of the parish keep the chapel open for prayer, quiet contemplation and personal discussions. Baptisms and weddings are also carried out at Katukappeli.

Katukappeli is part of the Vuosaari parish.

Celebrations at the church

Members of the church can organise a baptism, a wedding or a funeral free of charge in the church.

Katukappeli seats 30–40 people.
