Ikävästä iloon

Luin edesmenneen mummini Raamatusta: ”Ruoho kuivuu, kukka lakastuu, mutta meidän Jumalamme sana pysyy iäti” (Jes. 40:8). Katoavaisuuden keskeltä löytyy sittenkin jotain pysyvää! Muutosten kohinassa kuulen muidenkin kaipaavien tarpeen puhtaalle toivolle, jonka vain Jumala voi antaa.

Joulu avaa näyn suurimpaan iloon. Ikiaikojen Pyhä, Sana, Jeesus Kristus syntyi kerran ihmiseksi. Hän, jonka edessä kansat ovat kuin pisara meressä, tuli yhdeksi meistä. Rauhan ruhtinas saapui tuomaan sopua ja pelastusta riitojen ja pelkojen täyttämään maailmaan.

Joulun lapsi kutsuu jokaista rakkautensa hoivaan.

Yhden ihmisen voimat ovat rajalliset. Yhteisöissä mahdollisuutemme kertautuvat. Ympäristöteoissa tai yhteiskunnallisten arvojen kehittymisessä yhteisön äänellä on painoarvoa.

Vapahtaja muuttaa historiaa kauttamme. Yhdenvertaisesti ja ketään syrjimättä joulun lapsi kutsuu jokaista rakkautensa hoivaan, ystävyyteen, yhteisymmärrykseen ja ylistykseen.

Kutsun Sinut osallisuuteen ilosanoman voittokulusta monin tavoin. Laula vaikka joululauluja, osallistu messuun, lähetyksen myyjäisiin, kohtaa muita rakkauden sanomasta ravintoa etsiviä. Käy iltakävelyllä Kannelmäen kirkon pihapiirissä, näe valo pimeyden keskellä, kuuntele todistusta ensimmäisen joulun tapahtumista. Jumppaa, ojenna kätesi kohti korkeuksia, maan ja taivaan Valtiasta. Kuiskaa tai kilju monin kielin riemuiten – tule Herra Jeesus, arameaksi maranatha!

From sadness to joy

I read in my late grandmother's Bible: "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever" (Is. 40:8). In the midst of perishability, after all something permanent is found! Amid the noise of changes, I hear the need of others who are also longing for pure hope, which only God can give.

Christmas opens the view to the greatest joy. The Holy One of all ages, the Word, Jesus Christ, was once born as a human. He, before whom the nations are like a drop in the ocean, became one of us. The Prince of Peace came to bring harmony and salvation to a world filled with conflict and fear.

The child of Christmas calls everyone into the embrace of his love.

One person's powers are limited. Our opportunities multiply in communities. In environmental actions or the development of social values, the voice of the community has weight.

The Savior changes history through us. The child of Christmas calls everyone equally and without discrimination into the embrace of his love, towards friendship, mutual understanding, and praise.

I invite you to be part of the triumph of the gospel in various ways. For example, sing Christmas carols, participate in the mass, charity sales, meet others looking for nourishment from the message of love. Go for an evening walk in the courtyard of Kannelmäki church, see the light in the middle of the darkness, listen to a testimony about the events of the first Christmas. Exercise, stretch out your hands to the heights, towards the Kingdom of earth and sky. Whisper or scream jubilantly in numerous languages - come Lord Jesus, maranatha (i.e., Our Lord, Come!) in Aramaic!
