The old Hietaniemi chapel is situated by the Mechelininkatu entrance, in the old part of the cemetery. It was built in 1873 and was designed by the architect Theodor Höijer. The chapel seats around 80 people. Nearby, you will find another building designed by Höijer: the porter’s house, a red brick building dating back to 1901. Renovated in 2009, the building now serves as a waiting room for family and friends, in addition to housing office space for the cemetery staff.

The new chapel, situated in the Hietaniemi area, was designed by Albert Nyberg and was consecrated in 1933. It also has a columbarium for urns, as well as a room for the last viewing and goodbyes. The new chapel, which was renovated in 1996, seats 165 + 65 people.
